The City of Charlottesville is located in central Virginia, approximately two hours from Washington, DC or Richmond, VA by car. The closest airport to Charlottesville is the Charlottesville/Albemarle Regional Airport . The region is also served by Greyhound and Amtrak .

Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT), the City’s public bus system, serves the City of Charlottesville and portions of Albemarle County. Mobile App Available

Starlight Express Go back and forth to New York City on the Starlight Express, the low-cost, non-stop bus that picks up and drops off passengers on West Main Street at the Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) stop at the top of the steps to the Amtrak station.

U.Va Express is free, coordinated transportation from Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC and Charlottesville Airport to the University of Virginia just before Move-In. The program is coordinated by the University of Virginia’s Office of Engagement and has been made available to international first year and transfer students by a generous contribution from one of our graduates in Singapore. 434-924-4157

Home Ride of Virginia, Inc. provides weekend and holiday bus service from U.Va, VT, Radford, and JMU to many areas of Virginia including Northern Virginia, Richmond, Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville. Greene County Transit is a “demand-response” public transportation system for the County of Greene. Service is provided for the elderly, disabled, children, workers, and any other transportation needs to the residents of Greene to any area in Greene County on a “call-in” basis. 434-985-5205

Virginia Regional Transit is a non-profit community transportation service provider serving fifteen jurisdictions, including Loudoun, Fauquier, Culpeper, Orange, Clarke, Frederick, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, and Waynesboro. Virginia GrandDriver is an initiative of the Virginia Department for the Aging offering an educational resource designed to provide Virginians with information and resources about staying safe and mobile as they age.
